Walking Forward: the Brienenoord Island

Leerdoelen

  • Networking
  • Discuss the real barriers to finding work
  • Identify what helps people move forward in their search for work

Looking for work is harder than people think; the rejections, self-doubt, and uncertainty about how to present yourself all add up. Too often, you're facing it alone.

Walking Forward is a new series of group walks through Rotterdam for job seekers.

It’s all about real talk and a good walk with a small group of up to 10 people. Expect an open, friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome, whether you want to share or simply listen.

Who is this for

This is for you if you like a long walk, want to discover a new side to Rotterdam, and want to reflect on:
- The real barriers to finding work
- What others are facing and what's helped them move forward

Meeting point

The walks range from 2.5 to 6 km at a relaxed pace with no fitness level required.

Our third walk is on Sunday, 14 June at 10:00 AM. We'll meet at the entrance to the island (Ben Schopbrug) to walk on the Brienenoord Island. The walk is about 4 km and takes 1-1.5 hours at a comfortable pace, including breaks.

Get ready

Please bring a bottle of water and a light snack, if you like, and wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress for the weather so you can enjoy the walk. The atmosphere is open and informal. You're welcome to talk, listen, or simply walk.

If you have any accessibility needs or mobility challenges, please let us know in advance. We want everyone to feel welcome, and we can suggest the most suitable route or make adjustments where possible. Some routes are more accessible than others, and we are happy to provide more details.

Join the upcoming walks as well!

Upcoming walks (Sundays at 10:00 AM):

• 5 July: meet at the main entrance to walk along the Kralingse Plas (5km)
• 26 July: the Ommoordse veld route starting at kinderboerderij De Bleijde Wei (2.5km)

I'm known for building collaborations and making projects run smoothly. After several years of cancer and aging research, I want to support researchers to investigate questions that matter to our society.

Het gaf me wel een gevoel van zingeving, nieuwe prikkels, 'go' energie, nodig zijn, afspraken maken, opletten en leren. Al met al, mezelf nog meer positief in gang zetten.
